Christchurch International Airport

Arriving in style

As a key part of the Christchurch International Airport rebuild, we were asked to develop an arrivals experience that would wow visitors and help create a world-class airport.

We started with the key insight that a traveller’s path through an airport involves a series of ‘engagement points’. Each of these points became an opportunity for us to showcase the South Island with a truly memorable sensory experience.

From the moment a traveller gets off the plane onto the airbridge, we sweep them off their feet with large scale commissioned images and complete the picture with evocative sounds and smells of the area. The sensory journey is continued with remarkable points of interest, including a water feature offering the taste of pure artesian water and natural surfaces to touch. To convey the stunning scenery of the South Island we created the largest plasma wall in Australasia which entertains and engages visitors waiting in the customs area.

The project was a truly immersive experience. We drew on all our creative and thinking skills to tap into the travellers mindset and create an experience that leaves visitors full of anticipation.
